On 30 November 2024, we gathered at the National Liberal Club to mark a significant milestone for the UKAP Foundation: our first-ever gala. With over 200 guests in attendance, the evening served as a powerful celebration of Albanian excellence, cultural heritage and community-led impact.
The event opened with a sparkling drinks reception in the atmospheric Undercroft of King Charles I. From there, guests were welcomed into a programme that combined elegance with meaning, bringing together influential voices from across our diaspora.
Long-standing UKAP Foundation volunteer Driton Bilali opened the formal proceedings, followed by remarks from the Ambassadors of Albania and Kosova, HE Uran Ferizi and HE Ilir Kapiti, whose words reminded us of our shared purpose and collective strength.
One of the most moving moments came from the globally celebrated soprano Ermonela Jaho, who shared her personal journey with honesty and grace. Her conversation with Elona Mortimer-Zhika offered an intimate look at her journey and artistic vision.
We also heard from an extraordinary panel of speakers: Professor Lea Ypi, Ella Hoxha, Professor Shqiponja Telhaj and Dr Rudina Jasini. Each brought their perspective on identity, justice and education, highlighting the depth and resilience of our community.
Artist Alketa Xhafa Mripa added a powerful dimension to the evening, sharing work that explores the legacy of conflict and Albania’s communist past.
The night concluded with musical performances by Eljon Vejsiu and Kastriot Xhon Marku, whose renditions of traditional Albanian songs united guests in a moving expression of culture and community.
The UKAP Foundation extends deep gratitude to all who supported the event and helped make the evening a remarkable success. More than a celebration, the gala marked a meaningful step toward creating opportunities for the next generation. It also stood as a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, whose commitment and hard work over the past two months made this event possible.
We look ahead with pride and a renewed sense of purpose.
